Prunus Persica (Peach) Leaf Extract description

_Prunus persica_ (peach) leaf extract comes from the leaves of the domestic peach plant. For years these leaves have been used as a treatment for internal ailments, such as indigestion, but newer research shows this extract also has value as a skin care ingredient. Studies demonstrate that peach leaf extract exerts antioxidant benefits when applied topically, mainly due to its flavonoid content. There is also more recent research demonstrating that this extract might inhibit tyrosinase, the primary enzyme whose stimulation is associated with melanin overproduction – though more research is needed before coming to a definitive conclusion. Use levels of _Prunus persica_ leaf extract in cosmetics ranges from 1–5% when it is part of a water, glycerin, and/or glycol-based blend. This means the actual amount of peach leaf is lower than the recommended use level, a testament to how potent some plant extracts can be.
